Phantom of the Opera

To celebrate the 40th anniversary, Phantom of the Opera at His Majesty’s Theatre will be captured live and released around the world in 2027.

For the first time in its history, Phantom of the Opera will be recorded live at His Majesty’s Theatre in London, where it all began in 1986. The live capture will then be released in cinemas internationally in 2027.

The live capture will feature our special anniversary cast and the 40th anniversary gala performance on 9 October 2026. Audiences around the world will be able to watch the show from the theatre where it has played for four decades. The gala will include a special curtain call, with much-loved alumni from across the last 40 years joining the current company on stage. It will be a night to remember, and we’re delighted it will be preserved for fans around the world to enjoy.

The live capture is a co-production between LW Entertainment, Cameron Mackintosh Limited and Universal Pictures Content Group. It will be directed for the screen by Brett Sullivan (Hadestown) and produced by Dione Orrom (Six: The Musical Live!), with Helen Parker of Universal Pictures Content Group as executive producer. More details about the release will follow soon.

Meet the anniversary company

Our international 40th anniversary company is led by Jordan Donica as The Phantom, Beatrice Penny-Touré as Christine Daaé and Rhys Whitfield as Raoul. They are joined by Sierra Boggess as Carlotta, Matt Bateman as Piangi, Joseph Millson as Monsieur André, Ian Pirie as Monsieur Firmin, Joanna Riding as Madame Giry and Millie Lyon as Meg Giry.

You can see this company at His Majesty’s Theatre until 21 November 2026. Tickets are on sale for performances up to 2 October 2027, from £25 with no booking fee, at phantomoftheopera.com/london.

Hear Phantom as never before

To mark the anniversary, Andrew has returned to the original analogue master tapes of the 1986 Original London Cast Recording and remixed the score for the first time. The new release restores previously unreleased sections and includes rare material from Andrew’s personal archive. It is the most complete version of the original recording ever released.

The Phantom of the Opera (The Andrew Lloyd Webber 2026 Mix) will be available digitally from 9 October, with vinyl and CD editions following on 6 November.

Forty years of the Phantom

Since it first opened in London, Phantom has been seen by 160 million people in 229 cities and in 23 languages. It has won more than 70 major awards, including two Olivier Awards and seven Tony Awards. The original cast recording was the first in British musical history to enter the charts at number one.

Thank you to everyone who has been part of the Phantom’s story over the last four decades, on stage, behind the scenes and in the audience. We can’t wait to share this anniversary with you on the big screen.
