Prior to his role at the RSA, David Joseph was Chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group UK from 2008 to 2024. During his time at Universal Music, Joseph worked with stars such as Amy Winehouse, Stormzy, Florence + The Machine and Sam Smith, and oversaw the returns of artists like Take That, ABBA and The Rolling Stones. He also spearheaded the catalogues of Elton John, Queen and The Beatles.

Joseph has been a long-term collaborator of Andrew Lloyd Webber and the wider Lloyd Webber family. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s catalogue was managed by Universal Music Group for over 25 years.  

As well as chairing several critically acclaimed BRIT Award shows, Joseph was also an executive producer of the Oscar and BAFTA-winning 2015 Amy documentary. He also served on the National Council of Arts Council England for eight years and is currently Chair of the Grenfell Foundation. Joseph was made a Commander of the British Empire in the 2016 New Year’s Honours list.
